Scheduled cleaning of manholes and drainage pipes using water jets and sewage pumping stations in Paralia, Chora Mykonou [Images & Video]

Mykonos Water Supply and Sewerage Company [DEYAM] / Scheduled preventive cleaning and maintenance work on manholes and sewage pumping stations by DEYA Mykonos crews, so that the sewerage network is ready to meet the increased demands as we are at the peak of the tourist season and the island is flooded with thousands of visitors. 

More specifically, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, starting at 6:30 a.m., scheduled cleaning and general maintenance work was carried out on the manholes and pipes of the existing sewerage network in Kaminaki (OTE), on Agia Anna beach (in front of LITO), in Gialos, Chora Mykonos, as well as cleaning and preventive maintenance of the pumping station in Karaoli Dimitriou Square (next to the Town Hall) with the assistance of a tanker truck, which has a suction mechanism and a special vehicle with a blockage mechanism and a tank with a complete high-pressure water circuit with the ability to block high pressure but also the ability to adjust and increase or decrease the pressure and supply, so that the accumulated grease and sludge in the pumping station and manholes can be removed and the various systems in the sewer network can operate smoothly and without interruption.

Specifically, the work included:
• Opening and closing (after completion of cleaning work) of the manhole covers
• Suction of cleaning products from the manholes using appropriate mechanical equipment from a special tanker vehicle.
• The recovery of components such as sand, gravel, soil, organic and other waste
• The transport of cleaning products
• The thorough washing with water, using a high-pressure water pump, of the manholes and the network's pipes.

In addition, repeat cleanings will be carried out during the following week to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of the sewerage system.
